The Ottershaw Potter
About Me
I am drawn to the deep, rich earthy tones of terracotta clay and its long history of use across cultures and throughout the ages. I create unique, hand-built forms that range from jewellery and vessels to plaques, sculptural objects, and intricately detailed replicas of everyday items.
My wider practice is informed by a cross-disciplinary approach, shaped by my studies in stained glass design and Thai batik painting, alongside an interest in life drawing. I have experimented with translating batik techniques onto clay, combining glaze, wax resist and multiple firings to create layered surfaces. More recently, I have begun to explore the unpredictable outcomes of Raku and pit firing. Through these processes, I consider how traditional techniques can be translated across materials, creating new dialogues between past and present.
Alongside my studio practice, I teach in the local community, facilitating workshops and shared making experiences for all ages and abilities. Through both teaching and making, I continue to be fascinated by clay and its connection to our shared history.
